Day 2 (And Lynn’s Birthday!)
Friday morning we headed to Nadine and Adam’s place. They both had to go to work/school but Nadine had made an amazing breakfast casserole for her dad. She even had a “Happy Birthday” banner hanging up and presents on the table. Way to go Nadine! (And yes, he had his favorite beverage for breakfast!)

We headed to the Capitol building. It was HUGE. They really do like things big in Texas. We also walked around the LBJ library.

We met up with Nadine and Adam and headed for lunch. (It’s all about the food!). We had Tex Mex and by the time we were done we all needed fire extinguishers for our mouths. We walked around U T (no, that doesn’t stand for Utah) and found out that a large percentage of the people there wear orange shirts with longhorns on them. Nadine and Adam even got one for Lynn for his birthday. We walked around campus. It’s a BIG campus.

We also spent some time walking around Austin and then we headed for the “Worlds Largest Urban Bat Cave”. I know you’re all thinking, “Wow! I wish I could go where there are tons of bats!” but it really is very cool! The bats live under this bridge and come out every night to gorge themselves on bugs. I guess you see them better from the end of August through September, but it was still very cool. The river is pretty and as it got dark the buildings lit up and it a really nice view. The temperature was perfect.

I guess in August the bats come out earlier–just as it turns to dusk, but in November they wait until it’s dark so it’s harder to see them. We basically just saw them when people would shine their big lights up there. Look closely and you can see some headed out in this picture. This doesn’t begin to show the huge swarms of bats coming out.

We headed for a place to find some quick dinner. We went to the City Market–sort of a combo of a store and they had all kinds of food. Here’s a sample. Just be sure to check back tomorrow. Day 3 was pretty good! (No police and we had a full day for exploring!)

Yeah! Your bat picture turned out pretty well! I also love the picture of dad at breakfast! He looks so happy!
